The People’s Bank of China is to issue a set of gold and silver commemorative coins for the World Heritage—Temple and Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion in Qufu on May 18th 2017. The set consists of five coins, including two gold coins and three silver coins, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.
I. Design of the coins
i. Obverse design
The set of gold and silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China, the title of P.R.C. and the year date.
ii. Reverse design
The reverse of the 8g gold coin features the portrait of Confucius in his leisure time, the words ”Confucius” in Chinese and the face value.
The reverse of the 30g silver coin features the main gate of the Kong Family Mansion, the words “Qufu, the Kong Family” in Chinese and the face value.
II. Specifications and mintages of the coins
8g gold coin is proof in quality, 22mm in diameter, 100Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 8 grams of pure gold. The total mintage is 20000 pieces.
30g silver coin is proof in quality, 40 mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 30 grams of pure silver. The total mintage for each is 50000 pieces.
