The People’s Bank of China has issued a series of 2017 Chinese Ding You Year (Year of the Rooster) gold and silver commemorative coins on November 16th 2016. The program consists of 17 coins, with 10 in gold and 7 in silver, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.
I. Designs of the Coins
i. Obverse Design
The common obverse of the gold and silver commemorative coins features the national emblem of the People’s Republic of China, auspicious design of lotus and fish symbolizing a surplus year after year，the title of PRC and the year date.
ii. Reverse Design
The 3g round gold coin, 10g fan-shaped gold coin, 15g plum-blossom shaped gold coin, 150g rectangular gold coin, 500g round gold coin, 1kg plum-blossom shaped gold coin, 2kg round gold coin, 10kg round gold coin, 30g round silver coin, 30g plum-blossom shaped silver coin, 30g fan-shaped silver coin, 150g rectangular silver coin, 1kg round silver coin bear the common reverse of an image of a lifelike rooster in the foreground and a decorative design of the rooster as the background, the face value and the words “Ding You” in Chinese.
The 3g round gold coin (selective color), 150g round gold coin (selective color), 30g round silver coin (selective color) and 150g round silver coin (selective color) bear the common reverse of the folk traditional design of a rooster in the foreground (selective color) and auspicious flower design as the background, the face value and the words of “Ding You” in Chinese.
II. Specifications and Mintage of the Coins
i. 3g round gold coin is proof in quality, 18mm in diameter, 50 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 3 grams of pure gold. The total mintage is 180,000 pieces.
ii. 30g round silver coin is proof in quality, 40mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness, and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver. The total mintage is 300,000 pieces.
