The People’s Bank of China has issued a set of 2018 Auspicious Culture gold and silver commemorative coins since March 22nd 2018. The set consists of 8 coins, including 4 gold coins and 4 silver coins, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.

I. Design of the coins

i. Obverse design  

The set of gold and silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China, the title of PRC and the year date.

ii. Reverse design  

The “Shou Ju Mao Die” coins include a 5g round gold coin and a 30g round silver coin, which will be issued on March 22nd. The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature a longevity stone, auspicious flowers, a cat, a pair of butterflies, the idiom “shou ju mao die” in Chinese, implying longevity by homophones in Chinese pronunciation, and the face value.

The “Liu Kai Bai Zi” coins include a 5g round gold coin and a round 30g silver coin, which will be issued on April 20th.The reverse of the gold and silver coins depict a boy shouldering a pomegranate tree branch, the idiom “liu kai bai zi” in Chinese, implying bountiful offspring like the numerous seeds of a pomegranate, and the face value.

The “Zhu Lian Bi He” coins include a 5g heart-shaped gold coin and a 30g heart-shaped silver coin, which will be issued on May 18th.The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature a jade bi-disk with a pearl in the center, goldfish, lotus leaves, the idiom “zhu lian bi he” in Chinese, implying gold marriage as the perfect match of pearl and jade, and the face value.

The “Xi Shang Mei Shao” coins include a 5g round gold coin and a 30g round silver coin, which have been issued on June 20th. The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature a pair of magpies singing in the plum blossoms, the idiom “xi shang mei shao” in Chinese, literally “happiness is shining on the eyebrow”, and the face value.

II. Specifications and mintage of the coins

1. 5g round gold coins (three pieces) are proof in quality, 20mm in diameter, 80Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 5 grams of pure gold. The total mintage 3×30000 pieces.

2. 30g round silver coins (three pieces) are proof in quality, 40mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 30 grams of pure silver. The total mintage is 3×60000 pieces.

3. 5g heart-shaped gold coin (one piece) is proof in quality, 20mm in the length of the external square, 80 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 5 grams of pure gold. The total mintage is 30000 pieces.

4. 30g heart-shaped silver coin (one piece) is proof in quality, 40mm in the length of the external square, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 30 grams of pure silver. The total mintage is 60000 pieces.

III. The set of gold and silver coin is minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint Co., Ltd, Shenyang Mint Co., Ltd, and Shanghai Mint Co., Ltd, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation. For more information about the distribution channels please visit www.chngc.net.
