2008 is the "Wu-Zih" Year of the Rat. The image of a rat mother and child eating peanuts together was designed and executed by Professor Chang Ker-chi. It symbolizes the highly prolific fecundity of the rodents and embodies the Chinese notion that the greater number of offspring a family has, the greater the wealth and blessing it will enjoy.

Hsinchu is a city in northwestern Taiwan, and used to be known as "Jhucian." The image shows the "Jhucian City Welcomes the Morning Sunlight Gate," now known as the "Hsinchu Eastern Gate." It is the last remaining Ch'ing Dynasty city gate of the historical Danshuei Municipality in the Taiwan-Fujian area.

Description

This coin set consists of one silver coin, "The Year of the Rat," and two proof coins for "The 97th Year of the Republic of China." The former has a face value of NT$100, the other two NT$50 and NT$20, respectively.
